Since 1979, Pennsylvania Free Enterprise Week has brought together eager high school students to learn about career opportunities from some of Pennsylvania's top executives. Students learn what it takes to make our private enterprise system work by forming executive management teams that are tasked with turning an imaginary company into a financial success. They determine selling prices, marketing costs, budgets for production, research and development, financing and stock offerings, as well as developing marketing strategies and designing an advertising campaign.
PFEW takes place on the campus of Lycoming College in Williamsport, Pennsylvania during July and August, with four one-week sessions. Participants get to experience what it is like to live on a college campus with students from all across Pennsylvania. Each applicant much have the endorsement of a high school teacher, counselor or administrator, and complete two brief essays stating why they would like to participate in PFEW as well as listing past and present scholastic and extracurricular activities and achievements. Students accepted to the program receive a $425 scholarship from a Pennsylvania business or community organization.
